A Scripture-Centred Pattern
How the Study Works
Read Scripture, look to Christ and learn to respond to His grace together. This six-step rhythm offers a simple pattern for personal preparation and shared study, as we depend on the Holy Spirit to form us in Christlikeness.
Step One
Read
Read the Bible passage carefully in its context. Notice what it says before considering how it speaks to your life.
Step Two
Look to Christ
Consider what the passage shows about Christ and God's saving purposes in Him, in the light of the whole of Scripture.
Step Three
Reflect Honestly
Consider your understanding, desires and responses in the light of God's Word. Bring your questions and struggles honestly before Him.
Step Four
Receive by Faith
Trust what God has made known and given to us in Christ. Rest in His grace and rely on His promises as Scripture teaches them.
Step Five
Respond in Faith
Respond to God in prayer, repentance, gratitude and obedience, depending on His grace.
Step Six
Walk by Grace
Carry what you have learned into daily life. Keep looking to Christ and depending on the Holy Spirit, with encouragement from His people.
A pattern to return to, not a measure of spiritual achievement. We grow by God's grace as we hear His Word and follow Christ together.
Prepare to Study Together
Plan Your Group
Choose a pace that gives your group time to read Scripture, reflect honestly, pray and respond in faith. Plan under your church's leadership, with care for the people taking part and the commitments they already carry.
Consider Your People
Think about who will take part, their familiarity with the Bible, their reading needs and the time they can give. Consider whether a cell group, study class or paired study would suit them best.
Identify a Leader
Choose a leader who can prepare carefully, keep the conversation rooted in Scripture and make room for questions. Agree how the leader will seek pastoral guidance when questions need further care.
Review the Preparation
Read the sample and leader guidance before inviting the group. Explain what participants will read or reflect on between gatherings, and discuss how to support those who find preparation difficult.
Agree a Realistic Pace
Check the guide's session and gathering structure before setting your calendar. Allow time for discussion, prayer, holidays and review. Choose a sustainable pace rather than rushing to finish.
Arrange the Materials
Confirm access to a Bible and the book and Study Guide materials needed for your chosen study. Check the available language and format, how each person will use the resources, and any printing or sharing permissions.
Set a Start and Review Point
Agree where and when to meet, then tell participants what to prepare for the first gathering. After the first few gatherings, review the pace and support needed with the group and your church leadership.
Make Room for Patient Growth
The aim is to hear God's Word and follow Christ together, depending on His grace through every stage of the study.
